Creating artwork for musicians is my guilty pleasure. I do it for fun. I do it for pay. This type of work affords the opportunity to push the envelope, explore new ideas and allows for a greater freedom of self-expression. It is in this area that I am able to focus my resources and incorporate photography, illustrations, painting and typography to create unique pieces of art.
The process of designing materials for businesses, be it posters, postcards, manuals, book covers, etc. is exciting. It is a fun challenge to listen to the client and convey their point of view in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, visually interesting and effective at getting to the point.
The logo. An exercise in conveying the right information in a succinct and captivating manner. Logos are great because often times we become so lost in the what the computer can do for us that we forget about our old stand-by, the pencil. The process of turning doodles into sketches and sketches into a finished, polished piece is something that I believe is invaluable. It grounds us to our roots and reminds of the things we loved to do before we got fancy art degrees.
